Description: Founded on April 1, 1888 as a cricket club. A football branch was launched a few months later. Sparta are the oldest professional club in Holland. The name is a reference to the city-state of Ancient Greece. Team uniform is modeled after the English club Sunderland. Kasteelheren nickname is a reference to the club's stadium. One side of the stadium has a castle-like façade. It is located in the Rotterdam-West district of Spangen, the heart of Sparta's support.
