Jeremy: I'm not usually a wearer of footy gear, nor a person who sports a fashionable (or fashionably obscure) shirt-- that would be Chris! But, as we've received some new gear to try out I thought it high time that I ventured out on the town decked out in the newest addition to the collection - an FC Barcelona jersey. This is the 2007-08 away jersey made by Nike, a radiant orange with just a touch of the traditional blue and red on the neck, sleeves and the bottom. I normally like to wear a white t-shirt underneath any kind of jersey but the 'v' neckline made it look rather odd; plus the combination of orange, blue, red and white was maybe just one color too many. Whatever the case, I dropped the t-shirt idea and just wore it alone, which worked just fine as it's a very smooth and comfortable shirt with a nice, snug fit. I don't know if it was just the novelty of wearing a brand-new jersey (which I so rarely do), the combination of bright orange and brown corduroys (a surprisingly pleasant mix) or just the simple quality of the shirt itself but whatever it was, wearing that shirt felt great. Chris: As Jeremy alluded to, I am all about the latest in soccer gear and, dare I say, "fashion" of soccer equipment. I have a friggin' column about it, so I was delighted that our pal Travis at soccerpro.com sent along a sweet Barcelona kit. As my kit review stated, the bright orange away color of Barca is way better than their hideous 2006-2007 away kit-- which was fluorescent yellow. Unlike Jeremy, I like the little blau et grana stripes on the sleeves and neck. The team badge is cool, and while the UNICEF on the chest reminds me of when I was a kid at halloween collecting change for them, I'd rather have that on my chest than some useless cell phone company.
I played a match of footy with Jeremy and our crew while wearing the shirt. When Nike says 'dri-fit' they are not kidding. We got to play on a wonderful sunny breezy day, and true to form the jersey stayed dry and comfy. I was a little worried that my inability to finish scoring chances was a direct result of the jersey. Barca just finished a disappointing season and I was not having much luck, but eventually my team scored some goals and we finished with a flourish (actually, the winning goal was scored by a guy wearing some Barcelona shorts). Jeremy: I feel it important at this point that we take a look at how this shirt transformed our Christopher. Yes, that's Chris. Fantasy football league champion indeed. If his poor employer had any idea how much work time went into that championship. "I'll get that report to you this afternoon, I'm researching tight ends at the moment". And now he puts the shirt on... Transformation! Sleek, cool and wearing sunglasses! Yes, that's what this shirt will do for you. I can tell you that during the aforementioned game Chris was one of my teammates and I can tell you he was very, very, very easy to spot. Passes in traffic were effortless to our dear boy. Amidst a sea of Roma, Peru and Juventus jerseys, DC United t-shirts (that would be me) and assorted other randomness, the Barcelona jersey was a shining light, brightly shining. Chris: The shirt is great. I'd recommend Nike dri-fit jerseys to anyone. Personally I like Barcelona way more than their arch-enemies Real Madrid, so I recommend this shirt too. It's also good for deer hunting. "Més que un club" indeed! How to buy: Barcelona Nike apparel |
