Another great map from Bill Turianski, this time a map of the European football clubs with the highest average attendances during the 2009-10 season. The cut-off point Bill uses is 29,000 fans per game and an amazing 52 clubs are above that line. As you'd expect many are from the highly popular leagues from big Western European countries like England and Germany. A few big clubs from smaller countries like Portugal and Holland manage to sneak in as well while the only club not in Western Europe on the list are Turkey's Fenerbahçe.

A few other interesting things to note:

  • Newcastle United are 21st on the list despite playing in the second-tier Football League Championship. Also making the list while playing in the second division were Germany's Kaiserslautern and England's Derby County.
  • The team with the biggest increase from 2008-09 were Benfica (a 40% increase) while Milan dealt with a 28% decline.
  • Juventus, record Serie A winners, do not even make the list.

Much more to explore here so I'll let the map do the rest of the talking. Click the map to see it in a higher resolution.
