Flamengo won the 2009 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the Brazilian national championship. The title race was not decided until the final day and four teams had a chance to take the title. But Flamengo started with a two point lead and completed the task, coming from a goal down to defeat Grêmio 2-1.
This was the first national championship for Brazil's most popular club since 1992 and their fifth (or sixth) all-time, depending on how you count the controversial 1987 season.
