Monterrey RayadosMonterrey won their third league title by defeating Cruz Azul 2-1 in the second leg of the Mexican Primera División Apertura finals. The Rayados also won their first leg 4-3 but did not seal the win until Humberto Suazo scored in the 90th minute.

The Mexican Primera División uses an American-style playoff system to determine a league champion, with 8 of the 18 teams qualifying for the post-season. The Primera División also awards two titles per season, an Apertura (Opening) and a Clausura (Closing) season.

This is the third top tier title for Monterrey and their first since winning the Clausura in 2003. For Cruz Azul, one of Mexico's most popular clubs, the wait continues since their last league title in 1997.
