Rubin Kazan logoRubin Kazan won the Russian Premier League title for the second year in a row, mathematically clinching the title with one match to go. Rubin now hold an unassailable five point lead with one match to go over second place Spartak Moscow. Rubin were held scoreless by Zenit St Petersburg while Spartak lost for the second consecutive time, this time 3-2 to rivals CSKA Moscow. Spartak were within striking distance of Rubin but costly defeats to Krylya Sovetov Samara and CSKA Moscow ended their aspirations and gave the title to the Tatarstan club for the second year running.

Spartak still stand top in the all-time list of Russian champions with nine overall titles.

All-Time Russian Champions:

9 Spartak Moscow

3 FC CSKA Moscow

2 Lokomotiv Moscow
2 Rubin Kazan

1 Alania Vladikavkaz
1 Zenit St Petersburg
