Full Name: Verein für Leibesübungen Bochum 1848 City: Bochum Founded: 1938 Stadium: rewirpowerstadion (32,645) Colors: Blue, White Rival: Wattenscheid 09, FC Schalke 04
Description: Founded in 1848 as Turnverein Bochum 1848, a Bochum sports society. Football was added at a much later date. Merged with TuS Bochum 08 and Germania 1906 in 1938, the date that is given as the club's foundation. The word Leibesübungen is a very old fashioned word which means every possible sport activities. If you translate it literally it would mean: Body Activities (Leib = Body, Übung = Activity). So the full name translates as Bochum Body Activities Club or basically just Bochum Sports Club. Bochum is a town (380,000 inhabitants) located in the Ruhr Area, an urban urea in North-Rhine-Westphalia. Although VfL Bochum has German football giants Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund as local rivals, they've turned up twice in the UEFA Cup (1997 and 2004).
