Created as a merger of Swimming Club, Monaco Sports, A.S. Beausoleil, Etoile de Monaco and Riviera A.C. Monaco is technically an independent nation, but the club competes within the French football system. Reached the Champions League finalist in 2004 and European Cup Winners Cup finalist in 1992.

Stade Louis II:

The Stade Lous II is entirely built on land reclaimed from the sea and is named for the former prince of Monaco. The stadium was built in 1985 to replace an earlier Stade Louis II, itself built in 1939.
