Description:

Created as a merger of Saint-Pierre, Stade Nantais U.C., A.C. Batignolles, l'A.S.O. Nantaise and Mellinet. Atlantique is a reference to Nantes' location on the Atlantic coast of France. The club's name changed in 1992 because of an administrative reorganization. It changed again in 2007 after the takeover by new president Waldemar Kita. The 'Canaris' nickname is due to the club's yellow jerseys. Had not been relegated since they debuted in the top division in 1963-64 but sadly this streak ended after the 2006-07 season.

Stade de La Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau:

The Stade de La Beaujoire - Louis Fontenau stadium is officially named for a former club president (Louis Fonteneau) who was in charge when the stadium was constructed. Previous stadiums - Marcel Saupin (1945-84).
