Full name translation: Banfield Athletic Club. Formed on January 21, 1896. Banfield is a town in Buenos Aires province, just south of the city proper. The town was named for Edward Banfield, an English railroad director of the late 19th century. The nickname El Taladro was given to the club in 1940 by a newspaper journalist, after a very successful season. The stadium is named for an important former club president. Lencho was his nickname.
