Description: Formed on December 24, 1889 by English workers of the Central Argentine Railway. In 1903 the Central Argentine Railway merged with the Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway. The club was renamed as a mix of the two - Rosario Central. The 'Canallas' nickname derives from an incident involving a proposed friendly match with their arch-rivals Newell's Old Boys to raise money for leprosy. Rosario rejected and were called 'Canalla' by their disdainful rivals. Their fans adopted the nickname as a badge of honor. Lisandro de la Torre was a major Argentine political figure of the early 1900s, born in Rosario. Arroyito is the neighborhood where the stadium is located.
