Description:

Founded on May 5, 1905. Club was formed by a group of students from Santa Fe. When one group of boys came to ask another to join them in football, his mother told them he was studying history. At the time, the students were studying the travels of Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colón in Spanish) and they decided to adopt the name Colón for this reason. The original field was located along a river, and the club's colors (black and red) were taken from a barge that was regularly anchored nearby. The Sabaleros nickname is a reference to some of the club's early supporters, who were fishermen along the Salado river.

The stadium is named for a former governor of the province of Santa Fe and has the nickname Cementerio de los Elefantes (Cemetery of the Elephants) because so many big clubs have lost there over the years, including the Santos of Pelé and the Argentine national team.
