Formed on May 10, 1967 as a merger of Alkmaar '54 and FC Zaanstreek. Only club outside the Big Three to win the league title since 1964, which happened in 1981. That unforgettable season included away victories over Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord, a goal difference of +71, a Dutch Cup win and a UEFA Cup runners-up spot. Previous stadium: Alkmaarder Hout.
