Description: Clube de Regatas Botafogo was founded in 1894, Botafogo Football Club was founded in 1904. The two merged in 1942, after a basketball game between the two in which a player died. The clubs merged in his honor. Botafogo is a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, and literally translates to 'set-fire'. Many big games are played at the Maracana. The Lone Star in the nickname and in the club's emblem is a reference to the 'Estrela D'Alva', the first star in the night sky - actually the planet Venus.
