Description:
Translation: Cross. Founded as a sports club for the Italian community of Belo Horizonte. In 1942, Brazil entered World War II on the side of the Allies, and the government forced name changes for all organizations related to Axis countries. The new name was chosen to be based on the Cruzeiro do Sul, the Southern Cross, a symbol of Brazil. The club's new logo also incorporated the Southern Cross, and the club colors were changed from the red, green and white of Italy to a more Brazilian blue and white. The nickname Raposa (fox) was given by the journalist Mangabeira, inspired by the (apparently fox-like) ex-club president Mário Grosso. Typically supported by the elite of Belo Horizonte.

* Taça do Brasil (1966)
