Description:

The Earthquakes is a reference to San Jose's location near a number of geological fault lines, and the region's semi-regular earthquakes. There have been several clubs in the Bay Area with this name, although there is no direct lineage. The first lasted from 1974-1988 in the NASL and semi-pro WSA. The current club was almost named the Earthquakes initially but (*rumor alert*) because of Nike's influence, the club used the Clash name until the 2000 season. The club competed in Major League Soccer from 1996-2005. The franchise was moved to Houston before the 2006 season. In the summer of 2007 it was announced that the Quakes would return to MLS for the 2008 season. T

Buck Shaw Stadium:

The Quakes are playing most of their games at Buck Shaw Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara University, just north of San Jose. A few are being played at other locations around the Bay Area as they develop plans for a stadium of their own.
