Founded on January 22, 1932. Estrela = Star. Amadora is located on the northwest periphery of Lisbon.

Estrela Amadora were relegated from the Primeira Liga after the 2008-09 season despite finishing in mid-table. These same financial difficulties even prevented them from entering the second-tier Liga de Honra and as a result they start 2009-10 in the third-tier Segunda Divisão, Zona Sul.
