Description: Galatasaray is a school in Istanbul, and it was at that this school that the club was founded. Galata is a neighborhood of Istanbul. All club presidents to date have been alumni of the Galata Lycee, a school in the Galata neighborhood. The school had actually been founded in the 15th century, under the name Galata Sarayi (Galata Palace). Ali Sami Yen was one of the founders of the club. The only Turkish club to have won a European trophy, also reached the Champions League semifinals in 1989. In 1911 they were the first Turkish club to defeat a foreign team. They were also the first Turkish club to hire a foreign coach. Cim Bom reference dates from a tour of the Switzerland the club took in the its early days. During the tour they learned a Swiss football song - Jim Bom - and continued to sing it upon their return home.
