Description:

Founded on January 7, 1970 by Kaizer Motaung, a legendary South African player, who spent several years playing in the American NASL for the Atlanta Chiefs club. He organized a number of friendly matches, taking a number of important players from Orlando Pirates. Their rivalry evolved from this. A current British pop band is named after the club (though the spelling is slightly changed). Kaizer Chiefs are the most popular team in South Africa.

The Chiefs play matches at several stadiums around the Johannesburg and Pretoria area, the majority taking place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. They are in the midst of building a home of their own, the Amakhosi Stadium, scheduled to open in 2010.
