Description:

Limavady Alexander merged with Limavady Wanderers in 1884 to create Limavady United. The origin of the name Limavady comes from the Irish (Gaelic) ‘Leim a Mhadaidh’, which means ‘the leap of the dog’. A leaping dog can be seen in the club’s crest. The Roesiders nickname is a reference to the Roe river which runs through the borough of Limavady. 1876 is the year of foundation for Limavady Alexander (though as a cricket) club and this date appears on the club crest and is sometimes given as the year of the club's foundation.
