Description:
Formed in 1901 by the merger of two rowing clubs in Recife, who raced on the Capibaribe river. The football section was created four years. The club's nickname is the Timbú, an animal commonly found in the Sertão backlands of the Brazilian Northeast. The stadium's official name is that of a former club president, while it's commonly known as Aflitos for its location in the Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos neighborhood.
