Description:
Previous name translation: Italian Gymnasium Society. The club was founded by Italian immigrants. In 1942, Brazil entered World War II on the side of the Allies, and the government forced name changes for all organizations related to Axis countries. Palmeiras was an old São Paulo club that Societa Palestra Italia had always been friendly with, so that name was chosen. Palmeiras means (I believe) palm trees. The club's first two titles are from the unofficial national championship at that time, the Taça Roberto Gomes Pedrosa. Some big matches are played at the Morumbi Stadium.

Trophy Room:
* Brazilian Championship (72, 73, 93, 94)
* Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (1967, 69)
* Taça do Brasil (1960, 67)
* Copa do Brasil (1998)
* Copa dos Campeões (2000)
* Copa Libertadores (1999)
* Copa CONMEBOL (1998)
