Description:

Crystal Palace were formed by the owners of the Crystal Palace stadium in Sydenham Hill in South London. It was located near the glass-framed Crystal Palace, built for the 1851 Great Exhibition in London. It was moved from Hyde Park to Sydenham Hill in 1854 and became a Victorian-era theme park. After fifteen years in the Southern League, Crystal Palace joined the Football League in 1920. The Eagles nickname was adopted in the mid-1970s in attempt by manager Malcolm Alison to give the club a fresh start. New colors and a new emblem were adopted at the same time. The club had previously been known as The Glaziers. A glazier is someone who works with glass, a reference to the glasswork of the Crystal Palace. The emblem features an eagle atop an image of the original Crystal Palace.
