Description:
Shonan is a coastal region of central Japan, of which Hiratsuka is a principal city. Bellmare is a combination of the Latin words for 'beautiful' and 'marine'. Originally owned by the Towa Estate Development company, then that ownership was transferred to parent company Fujita Kogyo. From 1994 to 2000 the club included the city of Hiratsuka in the name. In 1999 Fujita ended its financial backing and ownership was transferred to a community-based organization. After 2000 the name was changed to include the region Shonan.
