Description:
Founded in Venda, one of the apartheid-era bantustans which is now a part of Limpopo province. Were also located in Secunda in Mpumalanga province. Located in Polokwane (Pietersburg) in Limpopo province from 2001-2006. Moved to Rustenberg in Northwest province before the 2006-07 season after being partially purchased by the Royal Bafokeng Nation which is located there. Silver Stars merged with Highland Park in 2000. The HP in the official club name symbolizes that.

After the 2006-07 season the club was renamed Platinum Stars. This is an homage to the long history of platinum mining in the region.
