Description:
Founded on August 28, 1918 as Sokol (Falcon). Merged with Shipka in 1924 to create Shipchenksi Sokol. 1945, merged with Levski and Radetski to create Spartak. Merged with Lokomotiv Varna in 1969 to create ZhSK-Spartak. Separated from other sports groups in 1985 and renamed as Spartak. Spartak is a reference to the Roman slave hero Spartacus. Shipka is a reference to the mountain pass in central Bulgaria, site of the 1877 battle of Shipka Pass.
