Description:

Widzew Łódź dates its foundation from November 5, 1910 as the club Towarzystwo Miłośników Rozwoju Fizycznego. This club was disbanded during World War I and its successor was not restarted until March 29, 1922 under the name Robotnicze Towarzystwo Sportowe Widzew Łódź. Although no longer part of the official club name, you can still see RTS in the club logo, along with the 1910 foundation date and the wreath and torch symbolic of Olympics and sports in general.  Widzew is a district on the eastern side of the city of Łódź. Their first match came against eventual arch-rival LKS Łódz. The nickname Czerwona Armia means "Red Army".

In early 2008 Widzew were implicated in a match-fixing scandal and were automatically relegated at the end of the season. If they finished inside the bottom 3 they would have down to the third division, otherwise they would go to the second division. In the end they were placed in the second division after a complex series of appeals and counter-appeals.
