Description:

Russia, as we all know, spent a large part of the 20th century as part of the Soviet Union. The 1960 European Championship was by the Soviet Union, which Russia was of course a member of. Russia, as part of the Soviet Union, joined FIFA in 1912 but the RFU didn't join as an invdividual country until 1992. Despite the massive popularity of the game, Russian football has consistently underachieved. The recent influx of cash into the game could be starting to change this. The 2005 UEFA Cup triumph by CSKA Moscow was the first European title for a Russian club.
