Description:

Brest were formed in 1950 by the merger of several local Brest clubs, most notably Armoricaine de Brest (1903). Its promotion to Ligue 1 in 2011 marks its fourth spell in the top tier, the longest being eight seasons in the 1980s. The 1980s heyday included a high finish of 8th place in 1987 but overreached financially, went bankrupt and were relegated to the amateur ranks. After the bankruptcy it was relaunched under a new name, Stade Brestois 29. The number 29 is the number of the département (somewhat like a state or county) of Finistère where Brest is located.

Stade Francis-Le Blé:

The Stade Francis-Le Blé (Francis-Le Blé Stadium) was opened in 1922 under the name Stade de l'Armoricaine. In 1982 the stadium was renamed to Francis-Le Blé after a former mayor of Brest, Francis Le Blé. The Stade Francis-Le Blé is located in the Saint Marc district of Brest.
