Description:

Formed as a merger between Vlaamsche FC de Bruges and Rapid FC. The original name of Cercle Sportif Brugeois, would mean something like 'Brugge Sports Circle', a variation on Brugge Sports Club. Koninklijke (Royal) is an honorary title given by the Belgian royal family to every club in Belgium after twenty-five years of existence. Cercle Brugge have the matricule #12.

Jan Breydelstadion:

The stadium (shared with Club Brugge) is named for Jan Breydel, one of the heroes of the 14th century Battle of the Golden Spurs, a Flemish uprising against the French.
