Making the long journey from village football to the Romanian First Division is CS Otopeni, who take their Liga I bow in the 2008-09 season. Otopeni is a small town of approximately 10,000 people just north of Bucharest and will be the smallest town ever to play host to a Liga I club. It's also home to Romania's main international airport, Otopeni International Airport. CS Otopeni got its start in 2001 in Divizia D (the fourth division) and have climbed the ladder surprisingly quickly. The club's full name translates as Otopeni Sports Club and indeed there is also a CS Otopeni basketball team among others. CS Otopeni will play the 2008-09 season at the Astra Stadium in Ploieşti, 45 km to the north, while improvements are made to the club's modest stadium.
