Deportivo de La Coruña were founded by students of the Sala Calvet, a prestigious school in A Coruña in the early 20th century. In 1909, King Alfonso XIII granted the club the title of Real (Royal) during a visit to the city and the club changed its name to Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, the name it still uses. The Real honorific was dropped during the years of the Spanish Republic but re-adopted at the end of the Civil War. It translates as Royal Sports Club of La Coruña. La Coruña is in the Galicia region of northwest Spain and battles with Celta Vigo for regional supremacy. The club still uses the Spanish La Coruña in its name, although the city is now officially known by the Galician A Coruña.
The nickname Turcos (The Turks) was originally used as an insult for Deportivo de La Coruña by rival Celta Vigo fans. The name supposedly dates from early in the club's history when, at least in the Spanish thinking of the day, a Turk was equivalent to a pirate. This has ancient history dating back hundreds of years to Ottoman Turkish pirates patrolled the seas of the Mediterranean and terrorized Spanish coastal cities. Whatever its strange origins the nickname has been adopted as a badge of pride by the club's supporters and Turkish flags can regularly be seen in the stadium. Blanquiazules and Branquiazuis mean The Blue and White in Spanish and Galician respecitively. The club's logo includes a crown at the top and center (representing its royal status), a flag with a purple and white cross (the symbol of the old Sala Calvet), a diagonal blue stripe (representing the region of Galicia) and all of these surrounded by a knight's belt with the club name inscribed.
Estadio Municipal de Riazor:
The Riazor stadium was built in 1944 and is located on the Riazor beach. It was built on the location of an older stadium of the same name.

Hola my wife was in La Coruna visiting her family over the weekend and in the hotel she was staying Deportivo players were there also. Knowing i am a fan of the club she managed to get them to sign a sheet of paper for me, and what a surprise for me.
