Description:
Founded on November 16, 1909 by the merger of Eindhovia and Sparta. The original club name meant Eindhoven's Football Association. Merged with Gesteel in 1921, resulting in the name change to EVV Eindhoven. The professional club broke off from the rest of the club in 1988, resulting in a change to SC Eindhoven. Matches with PSV Eindhoven are called the Light City Derby as the city is the home base of lighting and home electronics company Philips. Traditionally supported by the Roman Catholic section of the city. The stadium is named for a former player who led the club to their only title.
