FC Twente was formed on July 1, 1965 as a merger of Sportclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys. Enschede is the principal city of the Twente region of the Netherlands. A 'Tukker' is an inhabitant of the Twente region of the Netherlands. One Dutch championship was won by Sportclub Enschende. FC Twente reached the UEFA Cup final in 1975, their best-ever performance in a European competition.

De Grolsch Veste:

The stadium was previously known as De Arke but renamed in 2008 to include the sponsor name, the Grolsch brewery. De Grolsch Veste translates into English as the Grolsch Fortress.
