Full Name: Gimnàstic de Tarragona City: Tarragona Founded: 1914 Stadium: Nou Estadi (10,500) Colors: Red, White Nickname: Nàstic
Description:
Although founded in 1886 as a gymnastics club (thus the name), the football section of Gimnàstic Tarragona wasn't launched until 1914 by the absorption of Olímpic. The red shirts that Gimnàstic traditionally wear were adopted from Olímpic. The emblem of Nàstic is based on that of the coat of arms of Catalunya, the region of Spain in which Tarragona is located. The laurel wreaths to the bottom represent the Olympic spirit and athletics in general. Their entry into official competition began in 1918 in the 2nd Division of the Catalunya Championship. The club was known as Club Gimnasio from 1886-1893. Gimnàstic are the only club to have beaten Real Madrid at their Estadio Bernabeu on their first visit.
Nou Estadi:
Nàstic moved to their present Nou Estadi (New Stadium in Catalan) at the edge of town in Budallera in 1972.
Previous stadium: Las Hermanitas (1914-21), Estadio de la Avenida Catalunya (1921-72).
