Description: Górnik Zabrze were formed in 1948 by the merger of several smaller clubs from the city of Zabrze - Zjednoczenie, Pogon, Skra and Concordia. The word Górnik means miner, Zabrze being an important city in the mining region of Silesia in southwestern Poland. Górnik Zabrze hold the Polish record for consecutive league titles - five. Górnik's greatest success in Europe came in reaching the 1970 European Cup Winners' Cup where they lost to Manchester City. The stadium is named for a legendary Górnik player from the 1950s and 60s.
