Halmstads BK were founded on March 6, 1914. The official name Halmstads Bollklubb translates to English as Halmstad Ball Club.

The stadium opened in 1922 under the name Halmstads Idrottsplats (Halmstad Sports Ground). Two months later the name changed to Örjans vall after a medieval hospital named St Örjans that had been in the same location.
