Description:

Formed January 1, 1905. The previous year a club had been formed by the store 'A La Ciudad de Londres'. Some of the younger employees were paying dues to the club but were not allowed to play. They formed a breakaway club called Independiente Foot Ball Club, the name symbolic of their independence from the official company-run club . An early president saw Nottingham Forest touring in Buenos Aires and liked their red uniforms (which were subsequently adopted), thinking that it made them look like 'Red Devils'. Independiente have never been relegated and are the only club to win four consecutive Copa Libertadores titles.

Estadio Libertadores de America - La Doble Visera:

The nickname of the Estadio Libertadores de America - La Doble Visera (the double eyeshade) is a reference to the roof covering the crowd (a relative rarity in Argentine football). It was the first cement stadium in South America.
