US Le Mans was founded as an all-sports club in 1899 but the football section wasn't launched until 1906. Merged with rival Stade Olympique du Maine in 1985. Les Manceaux = those from Le Mans. Les Sarthois = those from Sarthe, the French department of which Le Mans is the capital. The red and yellow colors are those of the city of Le Mans.
