Description:
US Livorno formed on February 17, 1915 from a merger of two early Livorno clubs - SPES and Virtus. Pro Livorno (founded 1919) also merged into US Livorno in 1922. The 2004-05 season marked their first appearance in Serie A in 55 years. Livorno supporters have some of the most outspoken, left-wing supporters in Italy and their rivalries with traditionally right-wing clubs like Lazio and Inter are particularly fierce.
Stadio Armando Picchi:
The stadium is named for Armando Picchi, a legendary Inter player who was born in Livorno. It was previously known as the Stadio Edda Ciano Mussolini (the daughter of Benito Mussolini) from its construction in the 1930s, then colloquially as Yankee Stadium due to the regular presence of American soldiers in the city.
