LKS Lodz were originally formed as Klub Sportowy Łodzianka Łódź, which means the Sports Club for the city of Łódź. Most of the names over the years have been a variation on that theme. The two main nicknames of LKS Lodz are Rycerze wiosny - Knights of the Spring and Rodowici Łodzianie - Natives of Łódź. Rycerze wiosny dates from a newspaper article by Jerzego Zmarzlika in 1957 to honor a 4-goal victory by LKS Lodz over Górnik Zabrze, despite playing much of the match with 10 men.
