Description:

The Los Angeles Galaxy are one of the ten founding members of Major League Soccer and are second only to DC United in the total number of titles won. They are also the most well-known soccer team in America thanks to the signing of English midfielder David Beckham.

The Galaxy were the first team from Major League Soccer to reach the CONCACAF Champions Cup final in 1997. Three years later LA won the tournament, beating Honduran club Olimpia in the final.

The Galaxy's arch-rival Chivas USA also play at the Home Depot Center. Matches with Chivas USA are called the Super Clasico.

LA Galaxy Emblem:

The LA Galaxy emblem includes a single star, which I imagine implies a galaxy. The Galaxy have gone through several color schemes, logos and uniforms over the years, using the current one since 2007. I don't know a specific reason for the name Los Angeles Galaxy, except possibly a reference to the "galaxy of stars" that reside in Hollywood. It's a stretch but it's all I have.

LA Galaxy Stadium:

The LA Galaxy stadium from 1996-2003 was the Rose Bowl, better known for the college football game played there every New Year's Day. The LA Galaxy moved to the Home Depot Center in suburban Carson, CA for the 2003 season. The Home Depot Center was built by Philip Anschutz who owns the Galaxy (and at one time 5 other MLS clubs) and the Los Angeles Galaxy stadium is widely regarded as the best soccer stadium in the United States, though that may be changing with the opening of Red Bull Arena in New York. The LA Galaxy stadium name, the Home Depot Center, is so-named in honor of title sponsor Home Depot, the home improvement store.

Previous Stadium: Rose Bowl (1996-2003).
