Description:
The team's name is derived from the two most prominent symbols of Nagoya: the two golden grampus killer whales on the top of Nagoya Castle, and the Maru-Hachi (Circle eight), the city's official symbol. According to local legend several grampus whales saved the city from destruction by spouting seawater on a fire. Founded as the company team of Toyota Motors. The city of Toyota is near Nagoya, and some of the club's matches are played there every season in the Toyota Soccer Stadium (capacity 45,000). Most matches are played at Mizuho Athletic Stadium, which is located in the Mizuho district of Nagoya.
