Originally PSV Football was one of 19 members of the Philips Sports Club (in Dutch abbreviated to PSV)". The Philips mentioned is the Dutch industrial giant. Philips Sport Vereniging = Philips Sports Union. Boeren nickname is a reference to the farmlands surrounding Eindhoven, Gloeilampen is a reference to Philips' specialization in light bulbs.
