Details:Full Name: San Jose Earthquakes Description:The Earthquakes is a reference to San Jose's location near a number of geological fault lines, and the region's semi-regular earthquakes. There have been several clubs in the Bay Area with this name, although there is no direct lineage. The first lasted from 1974-1988 in the NASL and semi-pro WSA. The current club was almost named the Earthquakes initially but (*rumor alert*) because of Nike's influence, the club used the Clash name until the 2000 season. The club competed in Major League Soccer from 1996-2005. The franchise was moved to Houston before the 2006 season. In the summer of 2007 it was announced that the Quakes would return to MLS for the 2008 season. Buck Shaw Stadium:The Quakes are playing most of their games at Buck Shaw Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara University, just north of San Jose. A few are being played at other locations around the Bay Area as they develop plans for a stadium of their own.
Previous Stadium: Spartan Stadium (1996-2005).
Major Titles:First Tier League Titles:
