The club was renamed in 2001 after being purchased by the Mexican television giant Televisa.They are effectively a farm team for the flagship Televisa club América. Tuneros nickname is a reference to the tuna fruit farms that are common in the region. The stadium is named for a Mexican politician born in the city of San Luis Potosí.
