Description:

The league name (Campeonato Brasileiro Série C) translates as the C Series of the Brazilian Championship, the third level in the Brazilian system.

The 20 teams are divided into four groups of five teams each. The teams will play every other group team twice (home and away) for a total of eight games. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals while the worst team from each group is relegated to the fourth-tier Série D. The eight teams that advance are drawn together into home and away quarterfinals, then semifinals and then a final to decide the champion. The four semifinalists are promoted to Série B.
