Description:

The 16 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 30 games. The bottom two clubs are automatically relegated to the Polish 2nd League. The season runs from July to May with a 2-month winter break.

From 2005-2008 the league was known as the Orange Ekstraklasa, due to a sponsorship from telecoms company Orange. Starting with the 2008-09 season the league returned to being simply called the Ekstraklasa.
