Real Salt Lake won the 2009 MLS Cup final on penalties after a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy at Qwest Field in Seattle, WA. This was the 14th final in Major League Soccer's relatively brief history and the first title for RSL in only their fifth year of existence. Mike Magee opened the scoring in the 41st minute but Robbie Findley equalized midway through the second half and the Utah side emerged victories from the penalty shootout 5-4. While failing to come out on top, the Galaxy are hardly newcomers to this event - this was their sixth final, though only twice have they come away with the title. DC United hold the all-time lead in MLS Cup titles with four.
Total MLS Cup Titles:
4 DC United
2 Houston Dynamo 2 Los Angeles Galaxy 2 San Jose Earthquakes
1 Chicago Fire 1 Columbus Crew 1 Kansas City Wizards 1 Real Salt Lake
