Description:

The Primera División (Premier Division) is the top level of football in Argentina. Two tournaments are played per season - the Torneo Apertura (August-December) and the Torneo Clausura (February-June). Each club plays every other club once in each torneo. The team that is home in the Apertura is away in the Clausura. There is no overall winner, therefore two championship trophies are awarded each season. Relegation is based on the average points obtained over the past three seasons. The 19th and 20th clubs are automatically relegated while the 17th and 18th go into a promotion/relegation playoff with two clubs from the Primera B Nacional.
